WELCOME

TO KAJAKKBOX

Kajakkbox wants the joy of paddling to be more accessible to everyone, no matter where you are!

Kayaking is amazing and we want to make it easier to paddle, meet new paddle friends and discover new places.

You can already find several unattended rental locations in Vestfold and Telemark under “Locations” .

In several places, the kayaks are stored elegantly in outdoor furniture that contributes to good urban spaces and resting places along the water. In some places, more visibility is desired and the kayaks are rented from a trailer or a kayak rack.

Through online booking you can find the kayak that suits you and rent it 24 hours a day as long as the water is warm enough. And all our locations will inspire paddling.

For larger groups, we are happy to deliver kayaks to the exact location you desire, and in collaboration with Kajakkpadling.no we can also provide instructors for training or guiding. - contact us for prices and possibilities.

With Kayakbox, we want to help more people have the opportunity to paddle whenever they want, by renting a kayak instead of owning it. The kayaks will be stored where they are actually used and close to ground level, which will make paddling possible for a much larger portion of the population.

We want to provide the opportunity to test different types of kayaks before making a purchase. We also want to build a channel for information about paddling, local attractions, good trip suggestions, wildlife and special considerations for each location.

The initiator is Tine Raisbæk, who is a long-time kayak enthusiast and still holds courses and guides at Kajakkpadling.no.

We know there is great potential here, and we are happy to engage in dialogue to develop the offer in collaboration with individual locations, municipalities, developers, urban planners or travel destinations.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

You must have a minimum of a “Wetland Certificate” from the Norwegian Paddling Association or equivalent experience to rent a kayak in a kayak box. This means being familiar with the equipment, knowing basic techniques and knowing what to do in the event of a capsizing. The renter is also expected to make their own assessments with regard to the weather.

We have included a paddle and a life jacket with each kayak. This is adapted to the size of the kayak, but the experienced and discerning paddler may wish to bring their own equipment. There is no spray deck with the kayaks and those renting must wear clothing and shoes suitable for paddling, and you should expect to get wet on your arms, legs and where you sit…

We have quite a few different kayaks, and strive to provide good information about which ones are suitable for your use and your height and weight. This is stated for each kayak, but if you are extra curious, there is a lot of information to be found on the dealers' websites.

You will receive a code for the kayak you have rented and unlock the correct box. The vest, paddle and sponge are removed and the kayak is pulled out and placed on the grass for inspection. Check that the kayak is empty initially and that the hatches, lines and lowering keel are working properly. Adjust the foot pedals so that the kayak fits you and remember to put on a paddle vest. Pack dry clothes if you are going on a longer trip. The kayak box is closed with a padlock while you are on the trip.

Before you put the kayak back in the box, double-check that you have brought all your lunch and equipment. Feel free to go over the hatches, lines, lower keel and use the sponge to get the last of the water out so that it will be a good experience for the next paddler. Let us know if something is not working properly. Take a picture of the kayak and then the kayak is pushed into place and the paddle, vest and sponge are placed in the box. The box is locked, and we hope you have had a fantastic trip… Feel free to share your experiences with us on social media by tagging @kajakkbox

If for some reason you find that the kayak is not in a condition where you want to paddle it, or there is a fault and you cannot open the lock or similar, then try to contact us immediately, preferably by phone or send an email. We will then do our best to help you. If you cannot reach us, book another kayak and we will refund you afterwards.

There is no separate place for storing equipment, but there is a shelf in each box where it is possible to leave clothes and shoes at your own risk. It is recommended to bring a waterproof bag for your wallet, phone, etc.

The most important thing is to check both the weather forecast and the actual weather at the paddling location. It is usually recommended to start the trip against the wind direction, but in special weather conditions the wind can change and at some paddling locations there are special conditions in terms of e.g. current. This will be stated in the description.

It's a good idea to have a goal for the trip, but also keep an eye on the clock and think about returning well before the deadline. If there are several of you paddling together, take into account the least experienced.

There are many personal preferences here, but most things that are comfortable to move in can work for paddling. In the event of a capsize, it is an advantage if the clothes fit well on the body and do not absorb too much water and become heavy. You should choose clothes according to the water temperature and on longer trips bring a change of clothes and a windproof jacket for breaks. Running tights and a wool sweater work great. Neoprene shoes are recommended for your feet. You can also use swimming shoes or sandals, or shoes without shoelaces, as laces can get caught inside the kayak.

Remember a dry change for afterwards.

If the weather on the day you have reserved is so bad that it is not safe to paddle, you may be offered an alternative location, time or a refund. Please contact us as soon as possible so that we can assist. Weather conditions that give you the right to a refund are thunder, strong winds or fog.

Wear and tear on equipment is a natural consequence of heavy use and will not be charged to the tenant. Costs for repairing damage that is the result of careless use may be charged to the lessee. In the event of loss of a kayak or other equipment, you are responsible for all costs to replace what has been lost.

If there are many of you or you want the kayaks for several days, please contact us and we will find a solution. Kayakbox is specifically designed to make paddling accessible to many, for smaller adventures or everyday trips, but we are also happy to help with other needs and can often deliver kayaks exactly where you want them.

The wet card is the Norwegian certificate for kayaking, and it is divided so that you start with either an introductory course (4 hours) or a basic course (16 hours). This gives you basic skills and makes you safe in the event of a capsizing. The basic course must be taken before it is possible to continue with technical courses, etc. See more about the wet card and content at https://padling.no/vaattkort/

Kajakkpadling.no offers a variety of different courses and has guided tours all the time. In addition , kayak clubs, DNT and other providers have courses. Feel free to contact us and we will find something that suits you.
